Kuala Lumpur airport
When you are at Kuala Lumpur International Airport terminal 1 or 2, better known as KLIA1 and KLIA2. Then you can catch a bus to get to downtown Kuala Lumpur. It’s all quite easy and it’s much cheaper than Uber/Grab or a normal taxi. For a Grab you pay 65 MYR plus 8 MYR on top of that for toll way, makes a total of around $18. A normal taxi charges you usually around $25. The bus shuttle cost only 18 MYR (under $5).
Bus to Changkat
Follow the signs at the airport all the way to the ground floor where you will find the bus ticket counter. Usually some guy is standing nearby and will ask you where you go, but you can get yourself to the counter and tell them Jalan Alor or connecting Changkat road. A ticket for 18 Ringgit and a little wait for the bus will do. The bus stops at number 2. From KLIA 1, the bus goes first to KLIA 2 for a brief stop and then gets on its way to downtown Kuala Lumpur, which is around 65 km from the airport.
Although on your ticket is your destination mentioned and they say at the counter that they bring you there, the bus actually stops at some station. Here is a line of green minivans waiting for you to take you to your destination. This is included in your 18 Ringgit ticket. Depending on the route of the rest of the passengers and one way streets, you will be dropped at, or nearby your destination. In case of Jalan Alor, it could be Changkat.
Changkat is the road that leads to Jalan Alor at one side of it. Along this road, just around the corner of Jalan Alor are plenty of massage parlors. Girls are standing on the sidewalks with menucards, waiting for anyone passing to try to get them in as customer. Some of them can be pretty desperate, as they pull on your arms or stand in front of you and block your way. They even wait for you to come out of the supermarket. The price for a full body massage is 55 MYR ($14). But when you pass uninterested, they will ask how much you want to pay. Price is negotiable. For happy ends you’ll be charged extra usually.
Keep walking another 50 meters and just after the triangle junction you will find the bars of Changkat. At both sides of the road. Not only bars, but also some restaurants and two Irish pubs. Around 5 on your left hand side and 6 on the right hand side. The prices aren’t really cheap, $3 a glass beer during happy hour and nearly $4 after that, but the sphere is good and the food too.
All about Jalan Alor and Changkat can be found in another post on this side too. Jalan Alor is famous in downtown Kuala Lumpur. After 5 pm the road gets traffic free and all the restaurants put their tables and chairs outside. The food is cheaper than in the restaurants around the corner at Changkat and the beers too. All kinds of food can be found, although most places sell somewhat the same overall. A lot of seafood can be found and there are places with the popular Cantonese food Dim Sum and Thai food places too. Beside the many restaurants there are plenty of street stalls and carts with fastfood items as sausages and things like that.
